A free app created by two University of North Texas alumni is helping students at six universities across the U.S. navigate most every aspect of life on campus.

Mochila: Campus in Your Pocket, maps campus buildings and includes listings organized by dining, colleges and computer labs. The app, created by alumni Trey Tartt and Adam Selby, also has a university events calendar, campus news and bus schedules.

When voters in the city of Denton, Texas, approved a ban on the use of hydraulic fracturing last November, documentary filmmaker Garrett Graham believed he had found the perfect ending to his film about the organized actions taken by a suburban community to stop natural gas drilling.

For months, Graham, a Denton resident, had used his camera to chronicle the meticulous efforts of a group of residents to make their city a haven from the oil and gas drilling practice commonly called fracking. They had jumped through what they believed were all the necessary legal hoops, and after all the votes were tallied, residents erupted...

A host of University of North Texas music alumni are lining up to take part in a charity jazz concert this weekend.

The concert features two sets of live music starting at 6 p.m. Sunday at the Kitchen Cafe, 7370 Preston Road in Dallas. All proceeds will benefit Music Above All, a student-run nonprofit that promotes music education in Dallas-Fort Worth.

The first set, from 6 to 8 p.m., features the Clay Pritchard Trio. With Jonathan Fisher on bass, Lupe Barrera on drums and Pritchard on saxophone, the trio plays swinging jazz with smarts and playfulness.

UNT’s annual Helmets Heels event tomorrow

The UNT football team’s coaching staff will host its annual Helmets and Heels clinic for women from 5 to 8:30 p.m. tomorrow at Apogee Stadium.

Dan McCarney and his staff will host the event that gives women a chance to learn more about the fundamentals and strategy of the game.

The clinic will take place at Apogee’s Hub Club and will include a guided tour of the stadium, including the locker rooms and field. Those who attend will be able to try on equipment, including shoulder pads and helmets.

A players panel, referee presentation and raffle also will take place. The cost of the event is $50 at the door....

With the promise of exclusive reveals and a celebration unlike any other, QuakeCon 2015 rocked gamers’ worlds this weekend. The four-day gaming convention comes to a close today at the Hilton Anatole in Dallas.
