The North Tarrant Express is dedicated to improving mobility along north I-35W, northeast I-820 and SH 121/183 Airport Freeway through a regionally supported managed lane system.

NTE (I-820 and SH 121/183)

The NTE (I-820 and SH 121/183) Project began in October 2010 and reached substantial completion in October 2014 – nine months ahead of schedule. In addition to design, right-of-way and utilities relocation, the project rebuilt and expanded 13 miles along I-820 and SH 121/183 from I-35W to the SH 121 split. This $2.1 billion project rebuilt the existing four to six mainlanes and added four TEXpress (toll-managed) Lanes, plus frontage roads and auxiliary lanes to approximately double the existing capacity.

The project provided an additional value of approximately $450 million for operations and maintenance through 2061. Two additional non-tolled mainlanes will also be added no later than 2030 at no additional cost. This public-private partnership used two-thirds private funds with one-third public funds to complete the 13-mile corridor.

NTE 35W Project

The $1.73 billion NTE 35W Project spans 18 miles in Fort Worth. It will be built in segments with NTE Mobility Partners Segments 3, LLC (NTEMP3) constructing Segment 3A and the Texas Department of Transportation (TxDOT) constructing Segments 3B and 3C. Plans to reduce congestion by doubling capacity include reconstructing the existing lanes and adding two TEXpress (toll-managed) Lanes in each direction on Segments 3A and 3B. Segment 3C will add one TEXpress Lane in each direction. 

The NTE 35W Project segments include:

• Segment 3A is 6.5 miles of I-35W from north of I-30 to north of I-820
• Segment 3B is 3.6 miles of I-35W from north of I-820 to US 81/287
• Segment 3C is 8.0 miles of I-35W from US 81/287 to Eagle Parkway

Construction began on Segment 3B in May 2013 with completion estimated in 2016. Construction began on Segment 3A in July 2014 with completion estimated in 2018. Segment 3C is scheduled to let in late 2015.
