Breastfeeding Trainings

Sponsored by

The Department of State Health Services and TALWD

Objectives
  • To increase health-care providers’ knowledge of the need to promote and support breastfeeding.
  • To increase health-care providers’ knowledge of breastfeeding management.
  • To promote consistency of information given to breastfeeding mothers.
  • To encourage the adoption of policies that promote and support breastfeeding.
  • To encourage communities to work together to promote and support breastfeeding.

These courses are designed to prepare health-care providers to appropriately and adequately support breastfeeding women and their infants. The material is presented at a level to fill the gaps in professional education. DSHS believes that a positive, proactive approach to breastfeeding promotion and support can only be achieved through team effort. Thus, all levels of health-care workers directly affecting breastfeeding women and their infants are encouraged to attend.

Babies: We love babies, but course attendees find even cute baby noises very distracting. If you bring your baby, please also bring a sitter to take care of him while you attend the course. Babies are welcome in the classroom only when they are breastfeeding or sleeping.

Special Needs: If you have special physical or dietary needs, please let us know at least two weeks in advance of the course.

Registration Fee: Registration fees should be in the form of a check, money order, or cashier's check and should be received at least two weeks prior to class. Those who do not show up and haven’t paid will still be held responsible for the registration fee. Ideally, cancellations should be received at least two weeks prior to the class. Refunds for cancellation will be made up to two weeks prior to class. After that date, no refunds will be made. Individuals registered for the course that do not show up for class will not be given a refund if they have not cancelled in advance.
