Our Mission

• Protect, plan, enhance, and maintain a Parks, Major Public Open Space, and Trails System that gives Albuquerque its sense of place.
• Promote economic development and tourism by continuing to provide quality, affordable facilities and programs (e.g. Golf, Recreation, Swimming Pools, Parks, Open Space, Balloon Fiesta Park, Shooting Range, and Sporting Events).
• Assure quality educational programs for youth to encourage positive behavior towards a conservation ethic and therefore combat "Nature Deficit Disorder."
• Provide quality recreation programs to encourage healthy, active lifestyles for all ages.
• Encourage and develop a healthy and safe work environment, ethical management practices, and a spirit of teamwork for all Parks and Recreation employees.

Rio Grande Vision

The Rio Grande Vision (RGV) is about connecting Albuquerque to the river, while protecting the spectacular amenity and resource that flows through the heart of our community. The City hired Dekker/Perich/Sabatini and their team of planners, engineers, designers, scientists, and economists to evaluate conditions, reach out to the community, and develop concepts that will protect the Rio Grande while making it an integral part of our lives. Albuquerque’s Rio Grande Vision is about connecting Albuquerque to the river, protecting the spectacular amenity and resource that flows through the heart of our community, and exciting people with new ways to enjoy this hidden ecological jewel. The Rio Grande Vision is a conceptual plan, not a blueprint. The visioning process took place from August 2012 to August 2013 and is now complete.

Prescription Trails

The New Mexico Prescription Trails website will help you find some of the best park and trail walking and wheelchair rolling paths in Albuquerque, Bernalillo County's South Valley, Village of Los Ranchos de Albuquerque, Las Cruces, and Santa Fe.

• These maps will help you find walking routes near your home, work, or school.
• Maps with information about each walking route are organized by zip code or city.
• Maps within a zip code are then organized alphabetically.
• The current recommended physical activity guidelines are that adults should
  do at least 30 minutes a day of moderate exercise (like walking).
• Breaking up the period into 10 to 15 minute segments works fine!
• It is never too late to get up and get moving.

Swimming Lessons and Teams

Please keep this in mind when reporting dead trees:

If the trees are in a median or park, please call 311.

If the trees are on the side of a street, the adjacent business/property owner is responsible.

If the trees are on private property (such as in a yard or fenced-in area), the property owner is responsible.
