At Jamestown Settlement and the Yorktown Victory Center, your homeschool students will love discovering the sights and sounds of the 17th and 18th centuries while learning about their nation’s history.

Ticket Information
• Homeschool program tickets are $11.00 per family member (youth or adult) before August 23.  On or after August 23, tickets are $12.00. Ages 3 and under are free.

• Homeschool admission tickets are available for online purchase.

• If you do not have online access, tickets can also be purchased by calling Group Reservations at (757) 253-4939, or in person at the Visitor Services desk at either museum.
 
 
Homeschool Programs and Tours
Based on availability and advance reservations, ticketholders also are entitled to:

• One hands-on classroom program at each museum, according to grade level.

• One two-hour family guided tour at each museum. Hands-on classroom programs and tours must be booked by calling reservations at (757) 253-4939. Call early to reserve your spot. 

• Theme tours available with payment of an additional $5.00 activity fee per person.

• The pre-registration deadline for hands-on programs and guided tours is 5 p.m. three business days prior to the program/tour. 

• All programs address Virginia and United States standards of learning for history and social studies.

Family Guided Tour
Visit re-creations of a Powhatan Indian village, James Fort and replica 1607 ships, and a riverfront discovery area on a two-hour, hands-on tour guided by a trained museum educator. 

Dates:  September 9, 11, 12, 16, 18, 19
Times:  10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.

Family Guided Tour
Visit re-creations of a Continental Army encampment and Tidewater Virginia farm on this two-hour, hands-on tour guided by a trained museum educator. 
 
Dates:  September 10, 11, 13, 17, 18, 20
Times:  10:30 a.m. and 1:30 p.m.
 

Preschool-Kindergarten – Little Powhatans: 1.5 hours
Through simple and fun hands-on activities in the classroom, discover how the Powhatan Indians met their basic needs for food, shelter and clothing using natural resources. Then go outside to play games and learn how Powhatan children sharpened their hunting and gathering skills.

Dates:  September 9, 12, 16, 19
Times: 10:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.

Preschool-Kindergarten – Little Farmers: 1.5 hours
Work, learn and play like they did in the 1700s in this program about farm life in the years following the American Revolution. Then go outside to play authentic games on the re-created Tidewater Virginia farm.

Dates:  September 10, 13, 17, 20
Times:  10:45 a.m. and 2:15 p.m.

Grades 1-2 - Powhatan Indian World: 1.5 hours 
Handle and analyze clothing, bone tools and pottery of the Powhatan Indian culture, and learn words from their language. In the re-created Powhatan Indian village, learn how the Indians prepared and preserved food through all five seasons.
 

Dates:  September 9, 12, 16, 19
Times:  9:30 a.m., 10:45 p.m., 1 p.m.,  2:15 p.m.

Grades 1-2 - Colonial Life: 1.5 hours
Participate in activities that teach about the daily chores, responsibilities and decisions of a farmer, his family and enslaved Africans on a Tidewater Virginia farm. Then go outside to help prepare food the colonial way.

Dates:  September 10, 13, 17, 20
Times: 9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:15 p.m.

Grades 3-6 - Life at Jamestown: 1.5 hours
Analyze artifacts and documents to learn about daily life and early struggles in the Jamestown colony. Outdoors in the re-created James Fort, participate in a scavenger hunt to locate items that helped the settlers and the colony survive.

Times:  9:30 a.m., 10:45 a.m., 1 p.m., 2:15 p.m.

Grades 3-6 - Life of a Private: 1.5 hours
Discover why Americans joined the Patriot cause and the conditions soldiers experienced in camp and on the march. Visit the re-created Continental Army encampment to drill like a solider, and learn how wounds and illnesses were treated by the camp surgeon.

Grades 7-12 - Voyage to Virginia: 1.5 hours
Navigational instruments, tools and personal belongings provide keys to hands-on discovery. Learn about deduced reckoning and life onboard for passengers and crew. Then go to the re-created 1607 ships and work as a team to help a sailor with lifting and lading cargo.

NEW! Grades 7-12 - Revolution and the New Nation: 1.5 hours
Examine the meaning and significance of America's founding documents through engaging activities for older students. Then participate in "The Price of Liberty" role-play activity and decide if you would join the army in the Continental Army encampment.

NEW! Grades K-3 - People, Plants and Animals: 1.5 hours
Use your senses to discover the plants and animals that shared the environment of early colonial Virginia with the Powhatan Indians and English settlers on this fun, hands-on tour of the galleries and re-created Powhatan Indian village and James Fort.

Tour times: 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m.

NEW! Grades K-3 - Garden to Table: 1.5 hours
On the re-created Tidewater Virginia farm, try your hand at weeding and watering the kitchen garden, while identifying common herbs and vegetables of the period. Use apple slices and other plant materials found on a colonial farm to make a print/collage in the classroom.

Tour times: 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m.
NEW! Grades 4 and up - Coats of Arms: 1.5 hours
Discover clues about the status and identity of the early colonists who settled Virginia in the 1600s on this guided exploration of the Jamestown Settlement galleries. Find out how artists placed clues about family and wealth in works of art. Back in the classroom, create your own personal Coat of Arms containing clues about you.

Tour times: 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m.

NEW! Grades 4 and up - Uniforms, Art and War: 1.5 hours
In a guided exploration of the galleries, examine art to learn about the uniforms worn by soldiers of nations that fought in the American Revolution. Try on uniform coats and learn about the men who wore them. Visit the re-created Continental Army encampment to drill and march, then create a piece of framed military artwork in the classroom.

Tour times: 10 a.m., 1 p.m., 3 p.m.

Colonial Games
Saturdays, 10 a.m. to 3 p.m.
Quoits, bowling and hoop-rolling were enjoyed by colonial children, and you'll enjoy them too!  Activities will be outside, weather permitting, and led by museum staff and volunteers.

Participate in family programming related to "Jamestown's Legacy to the American Revolution" special exhibition, including 17th- and 18th-century military drills, musical performances, children's entertainment, crafts and activities.  

 Can't visit during Homeschool Days?
Homeschool daily rates are available for home educators with their students. Purchased only on site at Jamestown Settlement and Yorktown Victory Center. One visit per museum. Not valid during Homeschool Days. Valid homeschool identification must be presented at check in.

Jamestown Settlement & Yorktown Victory Center Combination ticket: $9
Jamestown Settlement ticket: $6.25
