External Affairs staff provide support to the regional office and field stations to communicate and facilitate information about the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Service's programs to the public, media, Congress, Tribes, partners, and other stakeholders in the eight-state region.

Legislative Affairs
Our Legislative Affairs Specialist serves as the liaison between the Service, Congress and other political entities in the region. He monitors legislative and policy issues at local, state and Congressional levels, maintains communication with state and district Congressional offices in the region, coordinates Congressional outreach activities with field stations, provides policy analysis and recommendations to the Regional Directorate, and serves as the regional point-of-contact for the Service's Washington Office of Congressional and Legislative Affairs.

Native American Affairs
Our Native American Liaison monitors tribal natural resources and conservation issues and maintains communication with the American Indian tribes within the region. Her awareness and relationship with tribes enhances the ability of Service programs to work with tribes. She also provides outreach and education regarding tribal efforts to protect, preserve, and conserve fish and wildlife resources.

Public Affairs
Our Public Affairs Specialists identify and communicate Service issues of public interest and concern. They provide outreach consultation on issues, activities, and actions of regional significance, assisting with outreach strategy development, media relations, partnership building, field visit coordination, and special events planning.
