Introduction to Archival Storage at NERSC

This presentation introduces the NERSC archival storage  system to new users.  After a brief overview of the NERSC storage environment, authentication and data transfer with each of four supported storage clients is discussed. The presentation  then covers techniques for avoiding common storage system problems as well as methods for storing data to optimze retrievability.

Getting Data to and from NERSC over the Wide Area Network

In this tutorial we discuss how to transfer large amount of data from NERSC to an outside server, or vise versa. We will demonstrate various options including scp, bbcp, gridftp, etc., showing the advantages/drawbacks of each method and when to (or not to) use them.

Globus Online (http://www.globusonline.org) is an easy-to-use, high-performance, reliable, secure data movement service. In this tutorial we will demonstrate how you can use Globus Online to move your files between NERSC, other high performance computing centers, and your own machines using web browser and command line interfaces.
