American Center
The Sapporo American Center (SAC) is part of the Public Affairs Section of the American Consulate General Sapporo.
There are American Centers and Public Affairs Sections located throughout Japan - -Sapporo, Tokyo, Nagoya, Osaka, Fukuoka, and Naha. The Sapporo American Center serves residents in Hokkaido and six nearby prefectures (Aomori, Akita, Iwate, Miyagi, Yamagata, Fukushima).
The Sapporo American Center acts as an information resource focusing on U.S. society, economy, foreign and domestic policy, and culture.
The Sapporo American Center promotes U.S.-Japan friendship and mutual understanding by:
- Conducting lecture programs, seminars and video conferences; by
inviting speakers from the U.S.; by conducting International Visitor
Programs for experts in local government, business, academic, and mass
media organizations.
- Organizing programs in such fields as American politics,
economics and trade, U.S.-Japan relations, U.S. foreign policy,
national security, the environment, American Studies, and other related
areas.
- Operating the Sapporo American Center Reference Service,
which is open to the public, and providing information about U.S.
politics, law, economics, international relations, and society.
