Costs Requiring Prior Approval

Introduction

You must obtain written approval or authorization for those costs specified in Title 2 Code of Federal Regulations (CFR) Part 220 (Educational Institutions) [PDF - 348 Kb], Title 2 CFR Part 225 (State, Local, and Indian Tribal Governments) [PDF - 288 Kb], or Title 2 CFR Part 230 (Non-Profit Organizations) [PDF - 276 Kb] as costs that are allowable only with approval of the awarding agency, or costs which contain special limitations (such as expenditure ceilings).

All conferences (defined broadly to include meetings, retreats, seminars, symposiums, events, and group training activity) conducted by Cooperative Agreement recipients or contractors funded by OJP must receive written prior approval. An approved award budget is not a prior approval. All prior approval requests must be submitted a minimum of 90 days in advance of the start date. See Prior Approval at http://www.ojp.gov/funding/confcost.htm for more information.
