The community policing philosophy promotes organizational strategies, which support the systematic
use of partnerships and problem-solving techniques, to proactively address conditions that give rise to public safety issues, such as crime, social disorder,
and fear of crime.
Recipients of the 2011 and 2012 COPS Hiring Program will utilize funding to address specific public safety problems by implementing and/or enhancing their agency’s community policing initiatives. The COPS Office supports grant recipients through training, technical assistance, and a wide array of knowledge resources (e.g., publications and CD-ROMs) that address key public safety issues. Other state, local, and tribal law enforcement agencies, community partners, and members of the public can also benefit from these resources.
