The Government of Kazakhstan initiated amendments in the Law on Electric Energy in order to reform the existing electricity market and establish a capacity market. Michael Bekker, who worked 25 years in the US power sector, was a consultant at reforming RAO EEC, and currently, the consultant of JSC KEGOC (Kazakhstan’s system operator) by USAID RESET Project, informed newspaper “K” about the operation of the capacity market in Russia and USA, and present condition of the power sector in Kazakhstan and its specifics.
