Branding and Marking Guidance

USAID's framework legislation, the Foreign Assistance Act of 1961, as amended, section 641, requires that all programs under the Foreign Assistance Act be identified appropriately overseas as "American Aid."

The main document outlining the Agency's branding and marking requirements is ADS 320 . For more information, please also visit http://www.usaid.gov/branding/.

Requirements for assistance awards are further detailed in the Final Rule titled, "Administration of Assistance Awards to U.S. Non-governmental Organizations (NGOs); Marking Requirements."  that was published by the Federal Register on August 26, 2005.

USAID/CAR has prepared a set of templates to guide preparation of branding and marking documents for new projects:

Please note: The USAID Graphic Standards Manual was written before the finalization of ADS 320. Inconsistencies between the GSM and the ADS chapter exist. ADS 320 should be used in the case of inconsistencies.

USAID Identity ("logo")

The USAID Standard Graphic Identity is an official U.S. Government symbol, and any alteration, distortion, recreation, translation or misuse is strictly prohibited. Please consult the USAID Graphic Standards Manual for detailed guidance on usage of this mark in print publications and on web pages. Non-scalable file formats are saved at a 600dpi resolution.

A number of digital file formats are available for download for various purposes. The files available are each optimized for a variety of applications, for both print and on-screen communications, to ensure easy adherence to these guidelines. All versions of the identity are available in print and web colors in the horizontal and vertical formats, in English, as well as in other relevant language. In addition to the "short" version of the identity, you can also download the subbrands – such as "USAID/Kazakhstan" in various applicable languages- please scroll down for more information about them.
