EPA to hold public hearings on proposed Carbon Pollution Standard for Future Power Plants; extends comment period
May 3, 2012 – EPA will hold two public hearings on the proposed Carbon Pollution Standard for New Power Plants. The hearings will be May 24, 2012 in Washington DC and Chicago. EPA is also extending the comment period on this proposed rule until June 25, 2012 to provide for 30 days for the public to comment after the public hearing. Each public hearing will begin at 8:30 a.m. and continue until 8:00 p.m. (local time). The public may preregister to speak at the hearings at a specific time. People also may register in person on the day of the hearing, and will be accommodated as time allows. Visitors must go through a metal detector, sign in with the security desk, be accompanied by an employee and show photo identification to enter the building. Proposed Carbon Pollution Standard for Future Power Plants
On March 27, 2012, the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) proposed the first Clean Air Act standard for carbon pollution from future power plants. The proposed standard is flexible and achievable for the next generation of power plants.
