146th Airlift Wing

The 146th Airlift Wing’s mission is to provide global military airlift capability to a full spectrum of state and federal agencies. Flying the C-130J Super Hercules aircraft, the 146th has provided humanitarian relief in the aftermath of hurricanes, earthquakes, floods, and other disasters, in California, the United States and internationally. The C-130 can operate from rough, dirt strips and is the prime transport for air dropping troops and equipment into hostile areas. It performs a diverse number of roles, including airlift support, aeromedical missions, weather reconnaissance, aerial spray missions, firefighting duties for the U.S. Forest Service, and disaster relief missions.

<p>Take your nursing career to new heights in the Air Guard. As a Flight Nurse in the Air Guard, you'll adapt the skills and knowledge you've gained in your civilian career to the battlefield environment, specifically aiding in the transportation of critically sick or wounded service members. <p>As you can imagine, the last person to handle an aircraft before it actually takes off bears an immense responsibility to make absolutely certain that the plane is mission ready. That person is the Aerospace Maintenance Specialist. In this job, you'll be accountable for ensuring the aircraft is in perfect working order. If alterations or repairs are needed, you'll assign specialists to fix the issues and work with them to ensure the plane's safety and readiness. Pre-flight, you'll give the plane one last inspection to make sure it's serviced with fuel, hydraulic fluid and liquid oxygen before giving it your final approval. <p>As an Integrated Avionics Specialist, you'll prepare aircraft for special missions like low altitude attack profiles, precision bombing, covert operations, and reconnaissance. In this highly technical career field, you may even perform as the aircraft Dedicated Crew Chief. You'll work with the finest military aircraft in the world, and you'll play an integral role in keeping Air Guard aircraft at readiness performance levels at all times. <p>When your primary mission is in the clouds more than on land, the weather plays a huge part in mission success. It's the Weather Specialist's job to keep a constant watch over one of the greatest threats to the safety of Air Guard pilots and aircrew. In this job, you'll analyze weather conditions, prepare forecasts, issue weather warnings and brief weather information to pilots. You'll learn to read and interpret weather satellite imagery, climatology reports, computerized weather prediction models and Doppler weather radar imagery. You'll operate a weather radar console and a high-frequency pilot-to-metro radio, as well as analyze and forecast weather elements such as clouds, visibility, winds, atmospheric pressure and many other parameters.</p><p>Weather Specialists are specially trained in:</p><ul><li>Characteristics and principles of atmospheric weather and space environment</li><li>Observation, analysis, prediction, and integration of weather and space environment information</li><li>Operation and operator maintenance of fixed and deployable meteorological and space weather instruments and systems</li><li>Operation and operator maintenance of communications and computer systems</li><li>Use of weather products from operational and strategic centers</li><li>Military weapons systems and decision-making processes</li><li>Combat field skills</li><li>Visual acuity correctible to 20/20</li></ul> Weather
