The United States Naval Academy invites you to historic Annapolis and to the hallowed grounds of the Naval Academy to experience a once in a lifetime exhibit on the Naval War of 1812!

This exhibit brings together two prestigious collections of art, artifacts, and ship models from the private collection of Mr. William I. Koch and the public collection of The Naval Academy Museum. Come to Annapolis to see the sea anchor from the USS Constitution, boarding weapons used in the war, and the actual carved wooden figureheads from the USS Chesapeake and the HMS Shannon, plus many other works of art and artifacts that combine to tell the stories and history of the War that established the U.S. Navy as a global sea power.

For the United States Navy, this war was crucial to its legacy. Ships such as the USS Constitution gained national fame and sailors such as Oliver Hazard Perry, James Lawrence, Isaac Hull, and Stephen Decatur became our national heroes. The phrase “Don’t Give Up the Ship!” became a common sentiment of perseverance and encouragement. The Navy came out of the war with professionalism, traditions, and missions that endure today.

This free exhibit, open for a limited time, provides a renewed appreciation of the contributions and sacrifices of the Navy and the Marine Corps during this crucial period of U.S. Navy history.
