Command Sergeant Major Bret A. Mellott entered the Army on 07 October, 1987. He received Basic and Advance Individual Training at Fort Sill, Oklahoma and graduated as a 13M, Multiple Launch Rocket Systems Crewmember.
Command Sergeant Major Mellott has held a variety of leadership positions in the Army, from Launcher Section Chief, Platoon Sergeant, Drill Sergeant, Battalion Master Gunner, First Sergeant, Operations Sergeant Major, and Command Sergeant Major. His stateside assignments include Fort Hood, Texas; Fort Carson, Colorado; Fort Sill, Oklahoma and; Fort Bliss, Texas. He has served overseas assignments in the Republic of Korea and Germany. Command Sergeant Major Mellott’s current assignment is Command Sergeant Major, 1st Battalion 41st Field Artillery. Command Sergeant Major Mellott deployed in support of Operation Desert Shield /Desert Storm, Operation Iraqi Freedom 06-08, and Operation Iraqi Freedom 09-11.
His military education includes Warrior Leader Course, Advanced Leader Course, Senior Leader Course, Drill Sergeants School, Joint Operations Fires and Effects Course, Tactical Information Operations Course, Field Artillery Fire Support Course, Master Resilience Trainer Course, Battle Staff Noncommissioned Officers Course, and the United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class 62). He holds a Bachelor of Science Degree in Military Science from Excelsior College, New York.
Command Sergeant Major Mellott's awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (4 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (5 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (6 OLC), Good Conduct Medal (8th Award), National Defense Service Medal (2nd Award), Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, and the Drill Sergeant Badge. Command Sergeant Major Mellott the prestigious Sergeant Audie Murphy Club and USAEUR Sergeant Morales Club and is a recipient of the Order of Saint Barbara.
