Kingsolver Clubs and Activities

Kingsolver Junior Red Cross Club

The purpose of the Junior Red Cross Club is to give Kingsolver students an opportunity to connect with an organization that specilaizes in caring about people. Meetings are held on Thursday mornings from 7:30-8:00 in Room 14. The American Red Cross will be providing programs throughout the year for students in grades 1-3.

Kingsolver Book Club

Second grade reading club is starting Monday, January 14! We are meeting every Monday and Tuesday until Spring Break. On Monday afternoons we are doing reading and extension activities in groups and individually. Tuesday afternoons are dedicated to independent reading and taking Reading Counts tests. Our goals are to have fun and practice our reading skills.

Reading Counts

Come see our Reading Counts points board in the main hallway of Kingsolver! Second and third graders that are reading books and taking Reading Counts tests have their picture up by the points they have earned. As the students take more tests on books, they earn more points and their picture moves up the board. Watch as our students read and achieve throughout the year!

Sam's Pet Safety Class

Kingsolver is very fortunate to have a beautiful Cavalier King Charles Spaniel therapy dog to come read with our students once a month. His name is Sam and he and his owner, our media specialist, teaches how to approach and behave around dogs. Once, during their regular library time, each class reads aloud a book about how to greet dogs in the community and learn proper conduct for petting and interaction with dogs they are unfamiliar with as well as dogs they know. They practice on a stuffed animal first, and then get to show their new skills on Sam, a registered Delta Pet Partners therapy dog.

TAS (Teachers Assisting Students)

TAS is an afterschool support service program for students at Kingsolver. The program is designed to give students additional support in math or reading. The program is held twice weekly for 45 minutes. Students recommended will have an opportunity to get the extra help they need in a small group setting. A student's participation in this program will improve their learning.
