174th Attack Wing

The mission of the 174th Attack Wing, located at Hancock Field Air National Guard Base in Syracuse, New York, is to provide qualified Airmen and weapon systems for engaging in global air, space, and cyberspace operations, as well as supporting homeland defense, joint operations, and aid to civil authorities at the direction of the Governor. Formerly a unit flying F-16 Fighting Falcon fighter aircraft, the 174th Attack Wing now operates MQ-9 Reaper unmanned combat aircraft. Over the years, the 174th Attack Wing has been awarded a number of Air Force Outstanding Unit awards.

<p>Imagine sitting in your Air Guard unit, just a few miles from your home, and controlling precision-guided munitions to eliminate an enemy target in a battle thousands of miles away. As a Remotely Operated Aircraft Officer, you'll supervise and lead those missions. In this exciting career, you'll operate remotely piloted aircraft (RPA) equipment and systems, electro-optical sensor systems, and electronic protection (EP) equipment to complete intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance (ISR) missions. You'll also plan missions, including close air support, interdiction, armed reconnaissance, combat search and rescue, and limited forward air control. <p>Behind every operation there is a team of Operations Intelligence Specialists stealthily gathering intelligence on the adversary. This information is a vital component in developing a strategy for a unit's next move. You will be responsible for covertly retrieving intelligence and disseminating it to the proper authorities in support of the military's mission. A career in Intelligence requires a security clearance, as you'll be gathering and evaluating highly sensitive intelligence information. <p>Air Liaison Officers are the most skilled and courageous Airmen in the entire Air National Guard. They are Ranger and Airborne qualified, proficient in air assault, scuba operation, and various parachute tactics, and maintain the highest physical and mental standards. You'll find Air Liaison Officers leading a team imbedded on the front lines of war among Army and Marine Special Force units to provide U.S. and allied forces with tactical air support for ground attack fighters. As an Air Liaison Officer, you and your team engages enemy forces utilizing advanced technologies and weapon systems to direct air strikes in close proximity of friendly forces. <p>It takes a shrewd and well-trained person to meet the demands placed on Command and Control Battle Management Specialists every day. In this career you'll help manage all airfield operations, including air traffic control, airfield management, base operations and inspections. You'll also perform surveillance, combat identification, weapons control, tactical data link management, communications and computer system management.
