<p>As an Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) Technician, you'll need nerves of steel in order to safely handle live explosives on a daily basis in this demanding but satisfying job. In this career, you'll apply classified techniques and procedures to lessen or totally remove hazards created by the presence of unexploded ordnance. You'll learn to detect, identify, recover, and dispose of U.S. and foreign explosives and ordnance that are unsafe, including conventional military ordnance, criminalsand terrorists homemade items, and chemical, biological, and nuclear weapons. EOD teams deploy in support of special operations and low/medium intensity conflicts, analyze unknown munitions and explosives for exploitation by the intelligence agencies, and provide protection to the President, Vice President, and other dignitaries in support of the United States Secret Service. <p>Before that C-130 rolls down the strip, the Air Transportation Specialist makes sure it's packed tight with everything the troops will need to complete missions. From food, water and medical supplies to Humvees and helicopters, you'll be responsible for securely packing cargo so that it can be loaded and transported safely and quickly. You'll even be responsible for checking in passengers and baggage when the cargo is actually military personnel. You'll be in charge of all the data that comes in and goes out of your department, and be responsible for making sure that information is in the right hands at the right time. You'll use the latest technological equipment to organize and share important military information. <p>In your role as a Fire Protection Specialist in the Air National Guard, you could be fighting a forest fire in northern California or battling a hazardous material fire on an Air Force base overseas, or even controlling burning rocket fuel while in flight. Your mission will be to prevent the loss of life and property from fire. During technical school training, you will be taught, and subsequently receive, Red Cross certification in standard first aid and CPR. You will also learn the principles and operations of fighting fires in buildings, aircraft, hazardous materials, and wild land (forests, prairies, etc.).
