DoD Civilian Child Care Subsidy Program

The following note refers to Civilian employees who use CYS Services' child
care programs ONLY. There are instructions for navigating to the website
https://dodcivilianchildcaresubsidy.com and completing the enrollment form
by 20 January 2011. CYS Services will be issuing documentation at the CDC
and SAS Programs to civilian sponsors who have children enrolled in a
program.

Child Development Center (CDC)

USAG Humphreys opened a new Child Development Center in 2007 with a capacity of 300 children. As a standard with U.S. Army Child Development Centers, the overall development of the child, improvement of motor skills, growth of social skills, personal hygiene and early education are all important parts of the overall program.


The Child Development Center offers a Mother and Baby Room. This is a one of a kind place for mother’s to spend quiet time with their newborns. Humphreys CDC is the only CDC in Korea to offer this setting. The Mother and Baby Room is conveniently located near the infant rooms offering a quiet, private, comfortably lit area for nursing. Mothers and babies can rock in the rocking chair while listen to calming music. The room also includes a parent resource library for all parents to check out books that pertain to their child.

As USAG Humphreys continues to grow, there will be more and more opportunities for full and part-time employment with Child, Youth and School Services. Please contact Civilian Personnel for information.

School Age Center

The School Age Care Center is located adjacent to the USAG Humphreys Elementary School and Army Family Housing in the Gilliland Youth Center (Bldg. 570). It offers a full range of School Age Services programs including special camps, field trips, homework assistance, fun activities, a variety of clubs and a Youth Technology Lab.

Youth Center (Middle School/Teen)

The Youth Center is located across the street from the School Age Center, in Bldg. 427. A full range of programs and activities are available including homework assistance, computer lab, arts & crafts, movie nights, mini-lock-ins, field trips, etc…

Youth Sports

Youth Sports teams are fielded for various age groups in Baseball, Soccer, a Youth Running Club, Swimming and Basketball. USAG Humphreys YS teams play in a league with teams around the peninsula which sometimes requires travel.

USAG Humphreys Youth Sports teams practice at Zoeckler Field and Independence Park which is located by the Main Gate. Both parks have artificial turf fields.

Volunteer coaches are always needed and are required to undergo background checks and complete a certification course before they are allowed to coach. Seasons tend to start and finish earlier than the traditional sports dates, so it is essential to register your children early to assure them a spot on a team. There is a fee charged for all sports, and all participants must be registered with the Child, Youth and School Services program.

Welcome to U.S. Army Garrison Humphreys. We’re here to help you and your family with information, resources, programs and activities through Child, Youth and School (CYS) Services.

We understand that it’s difficult to move to new locations, there are so many questions and we’d like to help you find answers for your children and teens before, during and after your move.

The Garrison School Liaison Officer (SL0) is here to help you whether you’re moving to Camp Humphreys or leaving for another destination throughout the world.

If you have questions concerning your child’s education, we are here to help and guide you. There are Department of Defense Dependents Schools (DoDDS) (elementary, middle and high school) on the installation (grades K-12), including a SureStart program for eligible four year olds that will be attending kindergarten the following school year.

K-12 - SCHOOL INFORMATION
Department of Defense Dependent Schools-Pacific (DoDDS-P) are available on post for families with school-age children assigned to Camp Humphreys. These schools include Humphreys Middle/Elementary School (grades K-8) and Osan American High School (grades 9-12). DoDEA-P operates school bus transportation services for children attending DoDDS/DDESS schools in the Pacific. School Registration:
At what age can my child start school?
A child must be five years old by September 1 to enroll in kindergarten. The change aligns DoDEA with national trends as well as the age requirement in many military-impacted states. A child must be four years old by September 1 to attend pre-kindergarten or Sure Start and six years old by September 1 to attend first grade.

What is required for enrollment?
1. Birth Certificate
2. Shot Record
3. Social Security Number
4. Copy of the child’s physical exam
5. Proof of Parent/Custodian address
6. Copy of orders (on post schools)
7. Custody or guardian papers filed through the court. (if applicable)

How do I enroll for school?
For new students only. Take a moment to complete your child’s online pre-registration at https://registration.dodea.edu/.
For more information, please call the Humphreys American School registrar office at DSN: 315-753-8894 or Osan American High School DSN: 315-784-9096 between the hours of 0700-1600, Mon-Fri (except holidays).

School Choice Options:
• Public Korea School Choice:  Children between the ages of six and fifteen are required to attend school in South Korea. There are six years of elementary school, three years of junior high school and three years of senior high school. Students typically attend their local elementary and junior high schools; they do not have a great deal of school choice until the end of compulsory education, which is at the end of junior high school.
• Private Schools:  Pyongtaek International Christian School is a not for profit school offering a balanced education.  Fully accredited by both the Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC) and the Association of Christian Schools International (ACSI), International Christian School provides a quality educational program that prepares students to continue their studies at leading universities throughout the world.
• Home Schools:  A host nation, state, commonwealth, or territory where a DoD sponsor is stationed may impose legal requirements or restrictions on home schooling practices.  For more info see DoDEA Policy Memorandum for Home Schooling.
• Pre-K: Options include Humphreys CYSS full and part-day Pre-K Strong Beginnings, full and part-day preschool, and Surestart (must qualify).
 
Reminders:
• Enroll your children as soon as possible. It is not recommended that you delay enrolling your children when you transition to a new installation. Some families have delayed enrolling their children up to a month and have risked their child repeating a grade.
• After you enroll, return to the school and provide the school with updated contact information. Schools often contact USAG Humphrey’s School Support Services trying to find a parent in an emergency because the parent failed to provide updated contact home/work info.
• All DoD schools have School Advisory Committees (SAC).  The committee advises the principal on matters within the jurisdiction of the school and DoDDS.  Contact your School Liaison Officer for more information.
