The Fort Gordon Deputy to the Garrison Commander

Mr. John J. Curry

Mr. John Curry graduated from the United States Military Academy, West Point, New York, and was commissioned as a Second Lieutenant in the Infantry.

His 23 years of active duty service includes assignments at Schofield Barracks, Hawaii; Fort Benning, Georgia; West Point, New York; Fort Leavenworth, Kansas; Fort Drum, New York; and Fort Wainwright, Alaska.  His deployments include peacekeeping operations in Somalia and Haiti and disaster relief operations in southern Florida following Hurricane Andrew.

Upon retiring from active duty in 2000, he assumed the position of Director of Community Activities for the U.S. Army Garrison, Alaska. In 2004, Mr. Curry was selected to attend the Army War College. Following the completion of the War College in June 2005, Mr. Curry assumed the position of Deputy Garrison Manager at Rock Island Arsenal, Rock Island, Illinois.

His principal duty as Fort Gordon's Deputy Garrison Commander is to support the Commander in accomplishing the mission of overall base operations management through subordinate supervisors and key employees. Assisting the Commander in the development of local partnerships, fostering community relations, and handling personnel and resource management problems are among his daily tasks.
