Police as Problem Solvers and Peacemakers

In FY2000, this project funded five sites to develop best practices in the areas of Police Personnel Practices, Racial Profiling, Developing Systems for Police Accountability, Training, and Enhancing Problem Solving. The sites included California's Sacramento Police Department, Massachusetts' Lowell Police Department, Colorado's Colorado Springs Police Department, Florida's Tampa Police Department, and Tennessee's Knoxville Police Department. Each site developed or enhanced a promising practice for replication by other police departments. In FY2001 and FY2002, each site was funded to provide technical assistance to a network of racial profiling initiative sites that replicated their strategies or created new ones. Each site also produced an implementation guide to help other departments replicate their efforts.
