The Science Department consists of three sections and offers a major in Marine and Environmental Sciences:
- Chemistry
- Marine Science
- Physics
In both introductory and advanced courses, faculty and cadets are involved in a wide range of projects that deal with interesting and important environmental issues. Some examples are:
- studies of water masses in the North Atlantic
- coastal food chains using isotope measurements
- issues related to fisheries management
- estuarine dynamics
- toxicity of pepper sprays
- detection of petroleum compounds in sea water samples
- identification of materials from suspected arson sites
