Fort Gordon Military Personnel Services Division

The Adjutant General Office of Military Personnel Services Division manages the full range of military personnel support for the installation.  

Our goals are to provide quality military personnel support to all Soldiers, retirees, and family members; automate whenever possible to increase efficiency; maintain readiness of all units through proper utilization of assets; and to ensure eligibility of all soldiers identified to deploy.

 

Family Coverage Under Service Member's Group Life  Insurance 

 

ELIGIBILITY Family coverage is available for spouses and children of:
  • Active duty service members.
  • Members of the Ready Reserve of a uniformed service.
  • Members must themselves be insured under SGLI.
SPOUSE COVERAGE
  • The maximum insurance coverage will be $100,000.
  • Soldiers will not be permitted to purchase more insurance on their spouse than they have on themselves.
  • Soldiers may elect in writing to decline the amount of spouse coverage in $10,000 increments.
MONTHLY PREMIUMS
CHILD COVERAGE
  • Each dependent child will be automatically insured for the maximum of $10,000 as long as the soldier is insured.
  • Coverage for eligible children is free and cannot be declined or reduced.
  • Any dependent child under age 18 is automatically insured; children between 18 and 23 who are full time college students are insured; any child declared legally incompetent prior to 18th birthday is insured.
PAYMENT OF PREMIUM
  • Automatic payroll deduction beginning on November 1, 2001
  • Premiums deducted will be based on the spouse's birth date registered in the Defense Enrollment Eligibility Reporting System (DEERS).
  • Soldiers must ensure that their marital status and spouse's date of birth has been correctly reported in DEERS and in the personnel record.
DECLINATION OR REDUCTION OF COVERAGE
  • To decline or reduce the automatic maximum coverage, the soldier must complete a SGLV-8286A (Family Coverage Election and Certificate) and turn in to records custodian at the Military Personnel Division (MPD) located in Darling Hall/Soldier Service Center
  • Soldiers may elect "no coverage" or lesser amounts of coverage in $10,000 increments.
