Goal:

Mitigate the impact of HIV/AIDS in Ethiopia and improve the quality of life of people living with HIV (PLHIV), their families, and the community through sustainable, comprehensive, and coordinated evidence-based interventions

Objectives:

  • Provide a preventive care package to PLHIV to meet their care needs and promote adherence to and uptake of clinical services

Description:

The Preventive Care Package program builds upon a solid HIV/AIDS service foundation to address the persistent problem of HIV/AIDS. The PCP program ensures the prevention care package activities and components are available, acceptable, and sustainable. While physical availability of the kits is an important program component, increasing PLHIV knowledge, skills, and correct utilization on the kit are emphasized by a vast cadre of PCP community workers. Existing health delivery systems are used for the PCP kit distribution and behavior chance communication (BCC) messaging to build capacity for sustainability and referral to services available outside of the PCP program. The program directly contributes or refers PLHIV for the following services and support: psychological/mental health; social services; HIV counseling and testing; long-lasting insecticidal nets provision; oral rehydration salts therapy; water, sanitation and hygiene; microfinance; antiretroviral treatment; HIV prevention; nutrition; protective safety net program; deworming; sexually transmitted diseases; and pediatric and orphan and vulnerable children care.

Expected Results:

  • Reach 480,000 PLHIV and their families with PCP kits and behavior change communication
