ACC Annual Awards Banquet
Headquarters Air Combat Command will host its Annual Awards Banquet March 1 at the Bayview Commonwealth Center at Langley Air Force Base. The evening will begin with a social at 5:45 p.m., followed by dinner at 6:30 p.m. The cost is $27 and will cover a meal with multiple options, as well as individual mementos. This year's theme, "Strength and Excellence Through Diversity," will be expounded on by the guest speaker, Dr. Albert Mitchum Jr., Political Advisor to the ACC Commander. TMO Tip: Know your limits- Headed to Germany?

Do you have an upcoming PCS to Germany? Upon arrival into the country, pets will be examined by the veterinarian near the passenger terminal baggage claim area. These examinations are conducted by the county veterinary office for the German General Customs. An examination fee of 55 Euro per pet will be implemented Feb. 1, for all non-EU citizens. AFAF donut and coffee fundraiser
Help Joint Base Langley-Eustis raise money for the Air Force Assistance Fund by ordering donuts, coffee and gift certificates. Orders will be sold from Feb. 4 to 15, and will be available for pick-up from the Community Center Feb. 20. Contact your squadron representative for order forms. Joint Base Langley-Eustis 2013 leave roll over days
Service members with more than 60 days of leave at the beginning of fiscal year 2013 are able to carry it into the next fiscal year, due to the FY 2013 National Defense Authorization Act. The provision is extending the maximum leave carryover of 75 days through Sept. 30, 2015. Langley Chapel Hiring
The Langley Chapel is seeking a part-time Protestant Religious Education Coordinator. Provide evidence of appropriate competence in the form of a resume, demonstrating at least two years experience working in an Air Force Protestant Chapel or local church program. JBLE Tax Center Opening
The Joint Base Langley-Eustis Tax Centesr opened Feb. 4 at both Langley Air Force Base and Fort Eustis. The hours will be 8 a.m. until 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. Tax return preparation services will be provided by Active Duty, Civilian and Retiree volunteers. Services will be provided to Active Duty Members, Retirees and their respective dependents, with limited availability for civilian and employees and Guard/Reserve Members on Title 10 orders. These tax return services are designed for basic to intermediate level taxes. Baseball for special needs kids
Challenger Little League for the Virginia Peninsula is holding registration for the coming Spring Season of baseball for special needs kids at the Newport News Midtown Community Center from 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Feb. 2, 5:30 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. on Feb. 20 and 10:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on March 9. ANG opportunities briefing
The Joint Base Langley-Eustis Air National Guard In-Service Recruiter, Master Sgt. Ski Trip

The Langley Chapel Single Airman Ministry is sponsoring a ski trip Feb. 15 though 17. The trip includes a two-night stay, eight hours of skiing, spiritual discussion, one meal, ski equipment and transportation. The trip cost $115 per person. Financial aid presentation
The Virginia Tidewater Consortium's Educational Opportunity Center (EOC) will conduct a financial aid presentation, "Funding a College Education," at the Soldier and Family Assistance Center at 501 Madison Avenue at Fort Eustis, Feb. 19 from 2 to 4 p.m. The program focuses on grants and loans from the federal government, the timely application process for student aid, state aid programs and information on scholarship searches. The presentation is open to all military personnel, retirees, family members and other base employees and personnel. Seats must be reserved in advance. Dependent scholarship opportunity

The Langley Officers' Spouses' Club has college scholarships available for qualified military dependents of current military members as well as retirees. Applications are available on the LOSC website: www.langleyosc.org. The application deadline is March 1.

Charity chase 5K /10K
The Langley Officers' Spouses' Club is hosting a 5k/10k run for charity March 2 at 8 a.m. at the Air Combat Command Fitness Center. Participants 18 years of age or older pay $25 while children pay $18. Engineering and Construction Camps
At the Society of American Military Engineers Engineering and Construction Camps, high school students from across the country learn engineering solutions and skills from professional engineers while getting a taste of what it means to work for and with the military services. Personal Safety Classes
April is Sexual Assault Awareness month. In an effort to reduce sexual assaults, the 633rd Force Support Squadron is hosting free, personal safety classes at both the Shellbank and Air Combat Command fitness centers. Women can sign up for the classes held April 1, 15, 22 and 29 from 4 to 5 p.m. at the Shellbank Fitness Center. Men can also sign up for April 11 from 5 to 6 p.m. at the ACC Fitness Center.

Flag-football tournament

Langley African American Heritage Meeting
Come join the Langley African-American Heritage Council to help support holiday functions, host educational programs, provide financial assistance and more. DEERS Enrollment Information

To complete the DEERS enrollment of a full-time student over the age of 21, the child must be:

-Unmarried and between 21 and 23 years of age
-Enrolled full time in an accredited institution of higher learning, leading to an associate degree or higher
-Dependent on the sponsor for over 50 percent of his or her support

Students remain eligible until age 23 or the date of graduation, whichever occurs first. Applicants must provide a letter on the institution's letterhead issued by the Registrar's Office (or a third-party equivalent) indicating that the child is a full-time student, the degree they are obtaining and the expected date of graduation. Two forms of ID are also required, and one must be a photo ID.

Construction near King Street gate

The city of Hampton is scheduled to have an ongoing construction project in areas outside of the King Street gate. Phase one involves the intersection of Old Fox Hill Road and Little Back River Road and is anticipated to be completed at the end of 2013. Phase two involves the intersection of King Street and Little Back River Road and is anticipated to be completed in the summer of 2014. This project is not expected to affect traffic on Langley Air Force Base, as there will be two lanes open to King Street gate during peak traffic hours.

Dermatology Clinic Move
The Dermatology clinic will begin transitioning its last patients from the NASA clinic the morning of Jan. 17. By the afternoon, they will be moved to the main USAF Hospital Langley Building 257, specifically located in the 1B area [previously Mental Health], which is located inside the temporary main entrance [during hospital renovations] of the old hospital. Visitors should take an immediate left down the hallway. The waiting room is currently designated as 1B048 in the new location.

The clinic will open for business at this new location Jan. 22. Phone numbers are not scheduled to change.

Virginian Veteran ID Cards
The Virginia Department of Motor Vehicles partnered with the Department of Veterans Services to offer a Virginian Veterans identification card for those who have served in the armed forces. The card costs a one-time $10 fee, and is convenient proof to receive veteran rewards.

MCAHC Refill Pharmacy Move
The Refill Pharmacy now operates from the third floor of the McDonald Army Health Center. The Refill Pharmacy's hours of operation are 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday, and 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Saturday.

Military Scholarships
The Virginia Advisory Council on Military Education is seeking applicants for $1,000 scholarships. Active duty, drilling reservist, National Guard members, veterans, permanently disabled military members and family members are eligible. Family members of Service members missing or killed in action are also eligible. Applicants must reside or work in Virginia. Applications must be postmarked by Feb. 4, 2013. New weight management program
The new Air Force weight management program "Better Life. Better Body." is designed to help individuals seeking to lose and maintain their weight and enjoy a healthy lifestyle. The interactive program includes five two-hour modules focusing on nutrition, physical activity and behavioral issues. Classes are limited to 30 seats per session. Passport Office appointments
The Langley passport office operates on an appointment-only system for passport and visa applications. Pick-ups and cancellations are available to walk-in customers from Monday to Friday, 2 to 3 p.m. Out-processing personnel can also do walk-in appointments for the same times. Hampton Roads transportation survey
The Hampton Roads Transportation Planning Organization is updating their Long-Range Transportation Plan. Entitled "Navigating the Future to 2040," this plan will address future road, transit, freight, passenger rail, bicycle and pedestrian needs that impact the region's economic vitality and every citizen's quality of life. The HRTPO wants to hear your perspective and opinions on transportation issues in the region through a short, five-minute survey used to help guide transportation in Hampton Roads and direct resources to solving those needs. Project Y.E.S!
Project Y.E.S! is a Department of Defense funded national internship program engaging college students in service to meet the needs of military families. Specifically, Project Y.E.S! expands the resources of the Yellow Ribbon Program and other youth & teen oriented programs. Staff interns are provided an opportunity to give back to their communities and country through a year of service. Applications will be accepted through Feb. 28, 2013, and students will be notified of the status of their application by April 2013. Route 105 bridge construction
A construction contract for the Route 105 Bridge Project has been awarded, but the City of Newport News has not announced a construction start date. The date of the actual rerouting of traffic will not be determined until after the preconstruction meeting, which is expected to take place within the next few weeks. During construction, traffic will be reduced to one lane in each direction on Fort Eustis Boulevard between Jefferson Avenue and the Newport News Reservoir Bridge. Construction is anticipated to take 12 to 18 months to complete and will have a negative impact on traffic attempting to access and exit Fort Eustis, as well as surrounding communities.

LaSalle Gate closed for 6 months
The LaSalle Avenue Gate closed for roughly six months beginning Aug. 13 due to the construction of a new Visitor Center and guardhouse. Any traffic approaching from the downtown Hampton/Interstate-64A area will be diverted to the Durand, West [Armistead] or King Street gates. Non-identification card holders should go to the temporary Visitor Center near the entrance of the West Gate to get a temporary pass. For more information, call Police Services at (757) 764-7766.

MPS appointment system
Langley Air Force Base's MPS Customer Service now offers an appointment system available for customers' use. Appointments can be made for issuing ID cards, DEERs transactions, citizenship applications, SGLI/FSGLI and any other actions done by the MPS Customer Service (except Passport/Visa applications). The appointment system allows everyone the opportunity to schedule an appointment. Anyone interested in scheduling an appointment can do so by accessing the RAPIDS Site Locator at the following link:

Air National Guard opportunities available
There are opportunities for you in the Air National Guard! The Palace Chase and Palace Front programs allow Airmen to participate in the Air Force part-time while pursuing full-time goals. PWOC extends invitation
The Protestant Women of the Chapel group is hosting a 11:30 a.m. -12:30 p.m. Bible study for active-duty women for many areas of life: finding balance, military leadership and spiritual areas. Facilitated by former active-duty women who've been through it all, including single life, married with no kid/kids, dual military, etc. Starting October 11th and meeting the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month until Dec 20th.

Adopt-A-School program
The Adopt-A-School program is designed to establish partnerships directly between squadrons and specific elementary, middle and high schools. In addition to providing local community support and improving the lives of our children, it provides a critical avenue for our Airmen to connect with the larger community outside the Langley gates. Junior Achievement volunteers
Junior Achievement of Greater Hampton Roads is looking for more volunteers. JA volunteers teach students about money and financial literacy using the JA Program Kit, Volunteers dedicate roughly 45 minutes a session to teaching children these concepts. Airman's Attic Policy Change
The Airman's Attic will no longer be accepting certain items for donation due to limited space and manning. These items include large appliances, furniture, mattresses, box springs, child safety seats, baby cribs and large toys. In addition, any televisions donated must be in working condition. Off-limits area
The Langley Air Force Base combat arms range and the bullet impact area to the rear of the range are off limits to all personnel. Due to live-fire of weapons, trespassing in this area is illegal and dangerous. The firing range is a controlled area at all times. For more information, call Tech. Sgt. Bateman Library updates
Audio books, eBooks, videos and a music collection of more than 20,000 items are available at the Bateman Library, as well as online and on-the-shelf language learning tools. New Location for pass and registration
The Pass and Registration Office, and the Visitor's Control Center have been consolidated into one location at the Temporary Pass Office outside the Armistead Gate. Visitor passes may be obtained from 5 a.m. to 5 p.m., on a daily basis. Pass and Registration is available from 7:30 a.m. to 3 p.m., Monday through Friday. Exceptional Family Member Program
Air Force Services introduces the Exceptional Family Member Respite Care Program, designed to provide parents with short-term, specialized child care to help reduce the stresses associated with caring for a moderate to severe EFM child. This program allows eligible Air Force active duty EFMP families to receive up to 20 hours per month of free respite care per EFM child depending on their EFMP category and the sponsor's deployment status. The Air Force has partnered with The National Association of Child Care Resource and Referral Agencies (NACCRRA) to recruit, screen and train providers to care for children with special needs. To be eligible, active duty Airmen stationed at Joint Base Langley-Eustis must be enrolled in the Exceptional Family Member Program (EFMP) and have a child up to 18 years of age identified with moderate or severe special needs living with them. Combatives program
A Mixed Military Combatives Training class is available Mondays and Wednesdays from 3:30 to 4:30 and 4:30 to 5:30 p.m. at the ACC Fitness Center Combatives Room at Langley AFB. New language-learning software now online
The Langley Bateman Library now offers Transparent Language Online, an effective and engaging language-learning program for libraries and their patrons. The program is accessible via the Internet and is available to USAF Active Duty, Air National Guard, Reservists, Retirees and their respective family members. AF Civilian employees and contractors who are eligible to use a USAF library are also eligible. All users must register in person at a USAF library and can then use it anywhere, anytime. Attention personnel residing in South-Side Hampton Roads (Norfolk, Portsmouth, Suffolk, Isle of Wright, etc): Your servicing Transportation Office, CPPSO-Norfolk, advises they are experiencing significant personal property counseling and household goods shipment backlogs. Education Center hours
In order to enable the Education Center to more effectively process Tuition Assistance requests and additional transactional requirements, the Education Center customer service hours are as follows: Monday through Friday from 9-11 a.m., walk-in customers welcome; 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. by appointment only. Appointments can be made by emailing 633fss.fsde.eo@langley.af.mil or by calling 764-2932. The operating hours of Base Training or Education Center Testing remain unchanged. Fitness Center hours
The Shellbank Fitness Center hours of operation are as follows: Mondays through Fridays, 4 a.m. to 10 p.m., and Saturdays, Sundays and holidays 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. For more information, call 225-8165. Rental Partnership Program
The Rental Partnership provides affordable off-base housing for Langley servicemembers, defraying costs incurred while moving, such as security deposits and application fees, and offering a 5 percent discount on rent. There is no out-of-pocket expense to the spouse because MyCAA funding will cover all costs. To input a decoration into your files, take the following items to the Manning Control Office, located in the 633rd Mission Support Group building, Wing A, Room 115:
Unit Awards: A copy of the Special Order and a second document to show how you are attached to the unit, such as a copy of an Enlisted or Officer Performance Report, Defense Travel System or CED orders.
NATO Medals: A copy of the NATO Certificate
Long-/Short-Tour Ribbons: Take a copy of CED orders and a paid travel voucher. Following, the Awards and Decorations Office updates Virtual MPF.

Kiwanis Club of Fort Eustis
The Kiwanis Club of Fort Eustis meets regularly on the 2nd and 4th Thursday of each month at noon at the Fort Eustis Club. All interested parties are invited and welcome to attend the meetings. Mental Health hours
The Langley Mental Health Clinic is open Thursdays from 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. exclusively for shift workers. To schedule an appointment, call (757) 764-6840; shift workers should identify themselves as such and state their preference for morning or evening appointments.

Modern Army Combatives training
The 633rd Force Support Squadron with Senior Master Sgt. Bryan Shipman conduct Modern Army Combatives in the ACC Fitness Center Aerobics Room Mondays, Tuesdays and Thursdays from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m., during which instructors introduce maneuvers from levels one and two of the MAC program. Participants can utilize the training to prepare for upcoming combatives tournaments at Langley. Free sitter site for military families
The Defense Department provides a free Internet service for military families. The website finds in-home child care, nannies, tutors, elder care providers, pet sitters and other services in local communities. Active-duty members of all military branches, including activated National Guard and reserve members and their families, can receive a free membership to the service, saving an average of $120 a year. The program provides military families with instant access to caregiver profiles, background checks, pictures, references, reviews, a four-step screening process, and a specialized matching technology to select the right caregiver. Langley Inns
Langley Inns provide convenient lodging for installation activities and local community services. Distinguished visitor and distinguished officers' quarters, visiting Airman Quarters and temporary lodging facilities are available; amenities and guest services will be provided. Spouse BATTLEMIND
Free confidential telephone support groups are available for spouses of servicemembers who have been deployed at least one time to Iraq or Afghanistan. The support groups are one hour and available once a month for a year. Spouses learn ways to manage stress and solve problems related to reintegration as well as receive education about post-traumatic stress disorder, traumatic brain injury and other common problems. MPF hours of operation
In an effort to decrease customer wait times, Langley Military Personnel Flight Customer Service appointments are reserved for active-duty Air Force members and civilians who are in need of a Common Access Card or active-duty Air Force members accompanying dependents, all who are serviced by Langley only. All appointments already scheduled will be honored. MPF business hours are as follows:

Toastmasters
For those interested in becoming a better communicator, the Toastmasters public speaking forum is an easy way to become more comfortable speaking in front of a crowd or senior military members. Career assistance
The 633rd Air Base Wing Career Assistance Advisor is available to answer many career questions concerning retraining, special duty jobs, and Career Enlisted Aviator jobs.
