Resources to educate students, teachers, and the general public about meteorology, space science, earth-observing satellites, weather phenomena and benefits GOES-R will provide to society.
Information and resources to ensure that the user community is prepared for the new types of satellite imagery and data that will be available from the GOES-R satellite series.
The GOES-R Space Segment is comprised of the spacecraft bus, instruments, auxiliary communications payloads, and the Launch Vehicle (LV). The spacecraft bus supports numerous subsystems. The instrument suite consists of Earth sensing, solar imaging, and space environment measurement payloads. The auxiliary communications payload contains the antennae, transmitters, receivers, and transponders to relay processed imagery data and provide the auxiliary communications services.
GOES-R will offer advanced imaging for more accurate forecasts, real-time mapping of lightning activity, and improved monitoring of solar activity. It will improve support for the detection and observations of meteorological phenomena that directly affect public safety, protection of property, and ultimately, economic health and development.
