User Facility |
A User Facility The Oak Ridge FACE facility is operated by the Environmental Sciences Division of the Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) as part of the FACE user facility of the U. S. Department of Energy, Office of Science, Biological and Environmental Research program. It is open to researchers from universities and other research laboratories who are interested in pursuing other questions relevant to forest response to elevated CO2. There are no fees charged for using this facility. However, all research conducted at the site must be approved by the Principal Investigator, and users must agree to abide by the saftey and access requirements of ORNL and DOE. Contact Rich Norby for more information about using this facility.
Scheduled hours are the total number of daylight hours in the month with temperature > 1 C, except for occasional periods when the CO2 was deliberately turned off for specific scientific objectives. Operating hours are the scheduled hours when the CO2 exposure system was functioning properly. On-site users are the number of principal investigators and co-investigators who were physically present at the FACE site in the given month, or who have technicians, post-docs, and graduate students working on the site. The tally does not include investigators analyzing samples or data from the site in their home laboratory. The multiple projects and participants associated with the core funding to ORNL all count as 1 user. |
