While reviewing/searching for passport information under the link indicated above, please note the following remarks specific to the U.S. Embassy in Djibouti:

  • Passport Services are by appointment onlyTo book an appointment, please click here.
  • Camp Lemonnier Staff: The Joint Personnel Center/J1 (JPC) has information to help you start the passport application process; however, you must appear in person at the U.S. Embassy to apply for your passport. JPC staff are able to pick up all finished passports from the Embassy once a week and allow you to pick them up from the JPC. You will be contacted via email when your passport is complete.
  • Official Passports: In addition to regular passport requirements, official passport applications must include:
    • A copy of your orders
    • A completed – typed and signed - DD-1056 (for DOD Employees)
    • Your passport application and DD-1056 must identify specific countries to be visited that require an official passport
    • For a first time official passport application, use form DS-11. For a renewal, use form DS-82.
  • Payment can be made in cash or by credit card.  U.S. Dollars (printed after January 1, 2003) or Djiboutian Francs are accepted.
  • If your passport is lost or stolen, report it immediately to the Camp Lemonnier Security Staff, Djiboutian Police or the appropriate authorities in Northern Somalia. Provide the Embassy with a copy of their official report when you appear to apply for a replacement passport.
  • Average passport processing time is 10 to 15 business days.
  • We do not have mail-in/mail-out services. All applicants must appear in person to apply for and receive passports.
  • After receiving your passport, please verify that all identity information is accurate, and promptly bring any errors to the attention of consular staff.
