COLONEL THOMAS S. BUNDT
Colonel Thomas S. Bundt, Ph.D., FACHE is a native of Washington State where he attended the University of Washington, enrolled in the UW Army ROTC program and joined the Army Reserves in 1988. He graduated in 1991 (cum laude) with a Bachelors of Science in Psychology and as a Distinguished Military Graduate in ROTC. His post graduate education includes a Master’s of Arts in History from Louisiana State University (1998), a Master’s in Health Care Administration in 2000, a Master’s in Business Administration in 2000, and a Doctorate in Health Service Research in 2002 from the University of Florida. He most recently earned a Masters of Strategic Studies (2009), at the US Army War College, Carlisle Barracks, Pennsylvania.
Colonel Bundt has served in a variety of command and staff positions which include: XO E Co., 3rd BN, 3rd BDE, 104th ID (TNG), Bothell, Washington, (1988-1990); Medical Platoon Leader (PL) in the 4th BN 12th IN (M) Regiment (1991-1992) 2nd BDE, 8th ID; and later PL in the 2nd BN, 6th IN (M) Regiment (1992-1993) 2nd BDE, 1st Armored Division, Baumholder, Germany. He served as the Chief, Primary Care Support Branch, 2nd General Hospital, and then as Adjutant for the European Health Service Support Area, Landstuhl Regional Medical Center, Germany (1993-1995). After the Advanced Course he served as BN S-1 and later as Company Commander for the Headquarters Company and the Medical Company of the 115th Field Hospital, Warrior Brigade, Fort Polk, LA (1995-1998). Between his next assignments, he attended long term training at the University of Florida in Gainesville, FL. Colonel Bundt then became the Program Administrator and an Assistant Professor in the U.S. Army Baylor Graduate Program in Healthcare Administration at Fort Sam Houston (FSH), TX (2001-2002) and left to attend Command and General Staff College in Fort Leavenworth, KS. He then served as the Chief, Managed Care Division, Darnall Army Community Hospital, Fort Hood, TX (2003-2005) and later as the Deputy Chief of Staff/XO for William Beaumont Army Medical Center (2005-2006) prior to deploying to Iraq as the Deputy Health Attaché to the U.S. Embassy in Baghdad, Iraq (MNFI-FWD). He returned to serve as the Chief of Staff and Troop Commander of General Leonard Wood Army Community Hospital, Fort Leonard Wood, MO (2007-2008) followed by an assignment to the US Army War College. He was Commander of the 187th Medical Battalion, 32nd Medical Brigade at FSH (2009-2011) and later served as the Chief of Staff, Bavarian Medical Activity, Vilseck Germany. His most recent assignment was Chief of Staff of Madigan Army Medical Center, Joint Base Lewis-McChord.
Colonel Bundt’s awards and decorations include the Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (8 OLC), Army Commendation Medal (3 OLC), Army Achievement Medal (3 OLC), Iraqi Campaign Medal, Joint Meritorious Unit Award, Army Superior Unit Award (2), National Defense Service Medal (2), Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Award, the German Abzeichen fur Leistungen (sports badge) in Silver, the Combat Action Badge and the Expert Field Medical Badge. He has been inducted into the Order of Military Medical Merit, the Military Order of Saint Barbara, received the Army Surgeons General “A” Proficiency Designation and earned the ACHE Regents Award for Senior Healthcare Executive from the Army in 2006. He won the Commandants Award for Research competition at the USAWC in June 2009. He is an active member of several healthcare professional organizations and alumnus programs as well as being published in multiple professional journals. He continues to present lectures at both military and civilian institutions schedule permitting. He is a board certified Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and qualified as adjunct faculty for the University of Kansas Medical School, Webster University Graduate Programs, and the US Army Baylor Program in Graduate Studies.
