Related Reports

The last three decades have seen the rise of Brazil as a major agricultural producer and exporter, owing to reforms implemented in the 1980s and early 1990s that enabled improved economic and financial stability.  That stability, paired with gains in productivity and expansion of cultivated area strengthened the country's position as a competitive supplier of commodities to the world market.  Its leading exports include soybeans and products, beef, poultry meat, sugar, ethanol, coffee, orange juice, and tobacco. Brazil's agrifood sector accounts for about 28 percent of the country's GDP.  Growing per capita income, a more balanced income distribution, and population growth are expected to continue expanding the quantity and quality of food products demanded by Brazilian consumers.
