Command Sergeant Major

Command Sgt. Maj. Daniel L. Willing assumed responsibilities with U.S. Army Garrison Yongsan on May 10, 2012. He serves as the commander's personal adviser on all enlisted and civilian related matters, particularly in the areas affecting training and quality of life for the Area II Community in Yongsan, Seoul, South Korea.
Willing is a native of Chicago, Ill. He enlisted into the Army in December 1985 as a Cavalry Scout and graduated from One Station Unit Training at Ft Knox, Ky. During his 26 years of service, Willing has served in every enlisted leadership position as a 19D Cavalry Scout.
His previous assignments include M113 Driver and Gunner, 1st Battalion 33rd Armor Regiment in Fort Lewis, Wash.; Squad Leader, 3rd Battalion 34th Armor Regiment in Boeblingen, Germany; Section Sergeant and Platoon Bradley Master Gunner, 3rd Squadron 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Amberg, Germany; Section Sergeant, Battalion Master Gunner, Scout Platoon Sergeant, 1st Battalion 16th Infantry Regiment in Fort Riley, Kan.; Squadron Bradley Master Gunner, 4th Squadron, 7th Cavalry, in Camp Garry Owen, Korea; Operations Sergeant, Platoon Sergeant, 2nd Squadron 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fort Polk, La.; Team Trainer, 278th Armored Cavalry Regiment in Kingsport, Tenn.; First Sergeant, 3rd Squadron 2nd Armored Cavalry Regiment in Fort Polk, La.; Operations Sergeant Major, 1st Squadron 14th Cavalry Regiment (RSTA) in Fort Lewis, Wash.; and Command Sergeant Major, 8th Squadron, 1st Cavalry Regiment (RSTA) in Fort Lewis, Wash.
Most recently he was the Command Sergeant Major for 3rd Battalion, 41st Infantry Regiment in Fort Bliss, Texas.
Willing’s operational deployments include Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; SFOR 1, Bosnia; Operation Iraqi Freedom I-II; Operation Iraqi Freedom VI-VII; and Operation Enduring Freedom 09-10.
His awards and decorations include the Bronze Star Medal (2 oak leaf clusters), Meritorious Service Medal (4 oak leaf clusters), Army Commendation Medal (4 oak leaf clusters), Army Achievement Medal (4 oak leaf clusters), Good Conduct Medal (8th award), National Defense Service Medal (1 bronze service star), Armed Forces Expeditionary Medal; Armed Forces Service Medal, Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Expeditionary Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korean Service Medal, North Atlantic Treaty Organization Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Valorous Unit Award (1 oak leaf cluster), Superior Unit Award, Combat Action Badge, and the German (Schuetzenshnur) Marksmanship Badge. He is also the recipient of the Order of Saint George.
Willing holds a Bachelor of Arts degree in History from Excelsior College, N.Y. His military education includes the Primary Leadership Development Course, Basic Noncommissioned Officers Course, Advanced Noncommissioned Officers Course, First Sergeants Course, United States Army Sergeants Major Academy (Class #55), and the Bradley Master Gunner Course.
He and his wife, Marian, have two adult daughters.
