NGEE Arctic Collaborations

We anticipate that the NGEE Arctic project will provide new opportunities for independently funded researchers to address their own science questions covering a variety of disciplines that are not represented by the core research team. To that end, researchers from other federal and state agencies, laboratories, and universities are encouraged to consider how they might leverage investments in the NGEE Arctic project on the Barrow Environmental Observatory (BEO) in Barrow, Alaska. Innovative modeling and novel process studies in the field or laboratory that advance our fundamental understanding of tundra ecosystems are possible.

An NGEE Arctic coordinating panel for vetting research ideas will assess sample requests and concepts for new collaborations. This panel will evaluate possible research collaborations throughout the duration of the NGEE Arctic project and it will be the panel that evaluates task overlap, appropriateness, safety issues, and the availability of resources required to support new collaborations. Potential collaborators would normally be expected to find funding for their own research activities. All collaborators must agree to abide by the NGEE Arctic data policy, site access, permitting, and safety rules established by ORNL.

It is hoped that by providing assistance, samples, and by implementing a mechanism whereby others can participate in NGEE Arctic research that we will create a value-added scientific resource not only for the project, but for the larger national and international scientific community.
