What It Does
Book number searches are made against an index of book numbers that have been assigned in the NLS International Union Catalog. The search returns an alphanumeric list of book numbers that follow the number being searched.
When To Use It
Use a book number search when you know the complete book number.
Examples
- Enter the entire number, beginning with the letter code: rc 32014
- Include leading zeros: br 00005
- rc 32014, but rcf04348
Tips
- Only NLS International Union Catalog book numbers can be searched.
- The system will not search ISBN, numbers, Library of Congress catalog numbers, or Dewey Decimal numbers.
- In the index, the letter prefix is considered to have three characters; leave a space when the third character is not used. rc 32014, but rcf04348
- In the index, the numeric suffix is considered to have 5 digits. Use leading zeros to fill unused places.
