August 2011 Seminar Series
The National Institutes of Health is pleased to welcome Dr. Dennis Andrulis as the featured speaker for the NIH Health Disparities Seminar Series on August 25, 2011.
The importance of cultural competence in health care is increasingly recognized by policy makers, and at least 19 provisions of the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act are intended to advance research, training, or service support in this area. These provisions have given new hope to those seeking to eliminate inequalities in the health care system and the health disparities they cause. Dr. Andrulis will review the progress in documenting the evidence for the importance of culturally tailored care and discuss new opportunities and research directions. In looking to the future, he will discuss how we can expand venues for engaging providers, communities, investigators, and policymakers in the translation of research on cultural competence in our health system to practice.
