  Coatings Technology & Systems Section

The Marine Coatings Section is concerned with addressing Navy needs in the areas of chemistry, physical properties, and performance-based analysis of protective organic and inorganic coatings and barriers. The section will conduct research in coatings performance analysis, development of coating removal technologies, and engineered composite coatings systems. The section provides comprehensive physical test and evaluation of new technology coatings for corrosion control, camouflage, fouling control, and other specialized applications. The Marine Coatings Section has been chosen as the NAVSEA approved organization for performance qualification of candidate coatings for shipboard use. In this capacity, the Section has direct responsibility toward the Commands and the Fleet for assuring that new coating systems meet current and future Navy-specific needs and requirements. The section is also responsible for understanding and demonstrating coating preparation, application, inspection and removal methods and processes both in the laboratory and on naval platforms.
