United States Department of Justice

The mission of the United States Department of Justice (DOJ) Senior Legal Advisor’s Office is to advise and mentor Afghan judges, prosecutors, and police officers at the Counter-Narcotics Task Force; judges and prosecutors at the Anti-Corruption Tribunal and Anti-Corruption Unit; and prosecutors assigned to the Counter-Terrorism Section of the National Security Directorate.

DOJ advisors are all career federal prosecutors with extensive experience in public corruption, narcotics trafficking and counter-terrorism.  These advisors provide basic legal training through formal seminars and classroom teaching.  Advisors more effectively teach through day-to-day, hands-on guidance as Afghan Government prosecutors prepare and present criminal cases to Afghan courts.

The training and mentoring DOJ advisors provide builds the capacity of Afghan prosecutors and investigators in the advanced and specialized investigation techniques necessary to successfully investigate and prosecute complex drug trafficking organizations, high-level public corruption and terrorist financing organizations.
