Ocean Data Policy

Project Managers shall provide timely, free, and unrestricted access to all data and associated metadata generated under the auspices of the NOAA Climate Observation Program.

Definitions:

"Timely" means near-real-time whenever possible and sufficiently rapid to be of value to operational forecast centers, international research programs, and major scientific assessments.

"Unrestricted" means that projects shall provide for the routine posting of data and metadata to the GTS and/or web servers, and shall submit all data to National or World data centers for archiving.

"Free" means without charge to individuals or institutions accessing routinely posted data and metadata via the GTS and web servers.

"Generated under the auspices" means owing their origin to instruments, platforms, or personnel deployed with funding from the NOAA Climate Observation Program.
