Target Goals:
- All Students will improve writing skills across the curriculum.
We define increasing writing skills as the ability to clearly communicate ideas by effectively using organization and writing conventions.
- All students will improve math skills across the curriculum.
We define math skills as the ability to solve problems using appropriated strategies and justify solutions using representations and vocabulary.
Interventions:
- Instructional Intervention Goal 1: Writer's Workshop
Teachers will use the instructional framework of Writer's Workshop to teach the writing process and the 6+1 Traits of Writing with an initial focus on organization, ideas, and conventions. Writer's Workshop includes mini-lessons, status of the class, time to write, conferencing, and time to share/publish.
- Instructional Intervention Goal 2: Questioning
Teachers will increase math skills by developing mathematical thinking through the posing of good questions for students to solve and by asking effective, higher-level questions before, during, and after student work time.
