Brigadier General Carolyn J. Protzmann is the Assistant Adjutant General – Air, New Hampshire National Guard, and also serves the Commander, New Hampshire Air National Guard. General Protzmann is responsible for the command, control and operations of plans and programs of over 1000 New Hampshire Air National Guard personnel located at Pease Air National Guard Base, New Hampshire. She is responsible to the Adjutant General for the combat and operational readiness of the New Hampshire Air National Guard and the ability of the 157th Air Refueling Wing to perform its federal and state mission.
General Protzmann joined the United States Air Force in 1978, receiving her commission through Officer Training School in February 1979. She served as an Aircraft Maintenance Officer for two years, working with both transport and fighter aircraft and was a Wing Plans Officer for the largest tactical fighter wing in the Air Force at RAF Bentwaters, England for three years. General Protzmann has been a member of the New Hampshire Air National Guard since 1984

The Deputy Adjutant General assumes full responsibility for the Adjutant General's Department in the absence of the Adjutant General and also serves as principal liaison to senior military officials, various state and federal officials, the legislature, local governments, and community groups. She provides overall guidance and direction for state operations including business administration, facilities management, and the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery
