Col. Mike Masley is a native of Oley, Pa. and received his commission as a 2nd Lieutenant through the U.S. Army Reserve Officers’ Training Corps from the Virginia Military Institute.

His previous military assignments include Fire Direction Officer and Platoon Leader with the 5th Battalion, 8th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment during Operation Desert Shield/Desert Storm; Fire Support Officer and Battalion Adjutant with the 1st Battalion, 319th Airborne Field Artillery Regiment at Fort Bragg, N.C.; G1/AG Plans Officer for the 82nd Airborne Division at Fort Bragg, N.C.; Strength Manager and Company Commander for the United States Army Recruiting Command at Fort Meade, Md.; Personnel Officer for the Defense Information Systems Agency in Washington, D.C.; Commander, Headquarters Company United States Army, at Fort Myer Va.; Brigade Operations Officer and Officer Account Manager for 8th Personnel Command at Yongsan, South Korea; Battalion Executive officer, 516th Personnel Services Battalion at Camp Coiner, South Korea; Strength Manager and later the Deputy G-1 for the United States Special Operations Command at Fort Bragg, N.C.; G1/AG for 10th Mountain Division at Fort Drum, N.Y and Multi-National Division-Center in Iraq; and the Director of Training for the Adjutant General’s School at Fort Jackson, S.C..

Most recently, Masley served as the NATO Training Mission-Afghanistan and the Combined Security Transition Command – Afghanistan, Director CJ1.

Masley’s awards and decorations include the Legion of Merit, Bronze Star Medal (1 oak leaf cluster), Defense Meritorious Service Medal, Meritorious Service Medal (1 silver oak leaf cluster), Army Commendation Medal (1 oak leaf cluster), Army Achievement Medal (1 oak leaf cluster), Joint Meritorious Unit Award (1 oak leaf cluster), Southwest Asia Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal (1 bronze service star), Afghanistan Campaign Medal, Iraqi Campaign Medal, Global War on Terrorism Service Medal, Korea Defense Service Medal, Military Outstanding Volunteer Service Medal, Army Service Ribbon, Overseas Service Ribbon (numeral 4), NATO Medal, Kuwait Liberation Medal-Saudi Arabia, Kuwait Liberation Medal-Government of Kuwait, Senior Parachutist Badge, and Recruiter Badge.

He holds a Masters of Strategic Studies from U.S. Army War College in Carlisle, Pa.; Master of Business Administration from Central Michigan University in Mount Pleasant, Mich.; and a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering from Virginia Military Institute in Lexington, Va. His military education includes the Field Artillery Officers Basic Course, Adjutant General Officers Advance Course, Command and General Staff School, Senior Service College and Jumpmaster School.

Masley is married to Karen Masley (McTish) and they have three children: Michael, Mikayla and Steven.
