KPRT gives smiles to orphans

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Feb. 4, 2013) - Nearly 50 children sat on metal chairs, at metal tables, in a room where the only light shone in through the curtainless windows. Patiently waiting. Outside, members of the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team unloaded boxes upon boxes of treats for the children. From gloves to winter coats, from school supplies to candy, the children sat in anticipation, not knowing what was in store for them.

ISAF Condemns Killing of Civilians in Helmand Province

KABUL, Afghanistan (February 3, 2013) - The International Security Assistance Force strongly condemns the senseless violence that occurred yesterday evening in Reg-e Khan Neshin, Helmand province. Several innocent Afghan civilians -- including children -- were killed when their vehicle triggered an insurgent placed improvised explosive device.

Kabul refugee children welcome winter clothes from ISAF volunteers

KABUL, Afghanistan (Feb. 2, 2013) – The Afghan winter poses a difficult – and sometimes deadly – challenge to refugees crowded into camps that surround the capital city. Overnight temperatures routinely dip below freezing, and the treeless countryside offers little in the way of firewood for the poorly-clothed refugees and their children.

Cadastre rebuilding under way

KANDAHAR, Afghanistan (Feb. 2, 2013) - U.S. Navy Chief Builder William Robins and Navy Lt. Calvin Warren made a follow-up visit to the Cadastre site to ensure proper reconstruction of the building, Jan. 23. The building was destroyed last year by a suicide bomber, killing two children, including the Cadastre’s 9-year-old son, and destroyed half of the building. Shortly after the blast, members of the Kandahar Provincial Reconstruction Team (KPRT) initiated plans to assist in rebuilding.

Soldiers teach Afghans how to tell their story to public

KANDAHAR AIRFIELD, Afghanistan (Feb. 2, 2013) – Afghan National Army public affairs soldiers are partnering with U.S. soldiers here to learn valuable skills to tell the story of their burgeoning independence.A public affairs team from the 3rd Combat Aviation Brigade, based at Fort Stewart, Ga., began visiting the ANA’s Kandahar Air Wing Public Affairs Office about six weeks ago, said Sgt. Luke D. Rollins, a native of Niskayuna, N.Y. He visits the office approximately once a week for an hour or two and concentrates on only one topic at a time, he said.
