CMDCM (SS/DV) JAMES R. SCHNEIDER
COMMAND MASTER CHIEF

UNITED STATES NAVY

Born in Marietta, Ga. Master Chief Schneider enlisted in December 1989. He completed Basic Training at Great Lakes in February 1990 and went on to Basic Enlisted Submarine School in Groton, CT.

Master Chief Schneider reported aboard his first Submarine, USS ASHEVILLE (SSN 758), in May 1990 where he completed a Western Pacific Deployment. He attended Auxiliary “C” school in Charleston, SC in November 1990. During his next sea tour, aboard USS BREMERTON (SSN 698), while serving as the Diver Division and Auxiliary Division Leading Petty Officer, he was advanced to the rank of Chief Petty Officer. While serving aboard he completed three Western Pacific Deployments. His next sea duty assignment was aboard USS KEY WEST (SSN 722). During his time aboard the command completed two Western Pacific Deployments and earned the Battle “E” for Submarine Squadron THREE. Master Chief Schneider joined the crew serving as the Chief of the Boat of USS JACKSONVILLE (SSN 699) from August 2009 to June 2012. During his time onboard the command completed it’s first ever Western Pacific Deployment and earned the Battle “E” for Submarine Squadron THREE for 2010 and the Deck Seamanship “D” for 2009 and 2010.

He reported to USS FRANK CABLE AS-40 and relieved as Command Master Chief in June 2012.

Ashore, Master Chief Schneider has served with Navy Recruiting District San Diego as a recruiter in Riverside, CA and Fleet Technical Support Center Pacific San Diego. While there, as the Leading Chief Petty Officer of the Total System Readiness Assessment (TSRA) team, he was advanced to the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer. His most recent shore duty was with the Performance Monitoring Team (PMT) - Pearl Harbor.

He currently resides in Pearl City, HI with his wife, the former GayLynn Mendoza of Pearl City, HI and their children Christopher, Steffan, Sera and Alexander.

His personal awards include the Navy and Marine Corps Commendation Medal (five gold stars), Navy and Marine Corps Achievement Medal (five gold stars) and various service and campaign awards.
