Posted | Changes to FY 2012 Courses | 03/05/12 | Updates to H-120 and F-104 The H-120 - MARSAME course which will be offered December 10-13, 2012 will be held in Topeka, Kansas. The F-104 - Health Physics for Uranium Recovery course which will be offered July 9-13, 2012 will be held in Moab, Utah. States interested in attending theses course will need to submit a training application to Brenda.Usilton@nrc.gov | 01/06/12 | Course Changes to H-122 and H-201(H-500) With the approval of the development of the Bridge (Gap) course, slight changes are being made to the content and name of the Basic Health Physics Technology (H-122) course. The new course names of the aforementioned courses will be Fundamental Health Physics I and II (H-122) and Fundamental Health Physics III (H-123). The name and content changes are being made to fit the new HP "series" that has been created. Similarly, changes to the end of the HP series, the Health Physics Technology (H-201) course, are being made along with its previous advertised new name, Advanced Health Physics (H-201). Two offerings in 2012 for the new H-123 course are being offered. The dates are June 25-29, 2012 and December 10-14, 2012. Both these courses will be held in Oak Ridge, TN. Below are the descriptions of the new courses: Fundamental Health Physics I & II (H-122): This 10-day course will cover fundamental health physics theory and principles, with significant emphasis on hands-on laboratory exercises and practical demonstrations in radiation protection and measurement. Course topics will include: introduction to radioactivity, interactions of radiation with matter; counting statistics, radiation instruments and calibration; radiation quantities and units; radiation shielding; radiation safety regulations; radiation surveys; liquid scintillation counting, biological effects of radiation; radioactive waste; medical use of radiation and external dosimetry. Fundamental Health Physics III (H-123): This 5-day course builds on Fundamental Health Physics I & II (H-122) course by focusing on the analysis of gamma and neutron-emitting radionuclides, providing an accelerator overview, and discussing x-ray fluorescence. Course topics will include gamma spectroscopy (identification); germanium detectors; gamma spectrometry (quantification); x-ray fluorescence; neutron sources; neutron interactions; neutron detection; neutron activation; and, accelerators. |

05/17/11 | Health Physics Special Topics (H-401) MARSAME The Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Assessment of Materials and Equipment is a supplement to the Multi-Agency Radiation Survey and Site Investigation Manual (MARSSIM). MARSAME provides technical information on approaches for planning, implementing, assessing, and documenting surveys to determine proper disposition of materials and equipment. This four-day training course focuses on the methodology and practical application of the MARSAME standard. This standard supplements the MARSSIM manual that has become the basis for real property Final Status Surveys. Chattanooga, TN, 10/24-10/27/2011 Bethesda, MD, 12/05-12/08/2011 |
05/17/11 | Special Topics (H-401) - Internal Dosimetry course Most useful to staff that have not taken the Health Physics Technology course (H-201). Would be best used as an introduction to or prerequisite for the H-201 course. Chattanooga, TN, 09/12-09/16/2011 Bethesda, MD, 11/28-12/02/2011 |
