Registration with the Embassy

Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP)

The Department of State recommends that all Americans enroll in the Smart Traveler Enrollment Program (STEP) with the U.S. Embassy or Consulate when traveling or residing abroad. Signing up for STEP makes your whereabouts and contact information known, in the event of an emergency or disaster, so that assistance can be provided.

Additionally, important information issued by the Department of State and the U.S. Embassy is readily distributed to those citizens who are enrolled in STEP. The American Citizen Services (ACS) unit of U.S. Embassy Prague is the primary source for communications to U.S. citizens in the Czech Republic.

Citizens may register in person at the Embassy in Prague or online here.  Once you have registered, you can return to this link and “Add a Trip” any time you travel. Please note that if signing up in person at the ACS office, proof of U.S. citizenship is required.  Enrollment in STEP online does not constitute proof of citizenship.

Please also note that, according to the Privacy Act of 1974, your personal information obtained through enrollment in STEP will not be released without your authorization.
