Prepare a Photo

To complete your DS-160 on-line visa application, you need a digital photo.  Please carefully read the following digital photo requirements and specifications before trying to upload one to your DS-160 application.

Click on the “Test Photo” button near the beginning of the DS-160 application and select an image in JPG format, which is smaller than 240 KB.

If the photo you are trying to upload does not comply with all of the requirements, the program will not accept it and the photo will not be saved to the application.  You will receive an error message explaining why the photo was not accepted.

You can continue completing your application without a photo, but you will need to bring a printed photo that meets all of the requirements for visa issuance with you the day of your interview.

If you succeed in uploading a photo, you will see it in the designated spot on the application, and will receive a message confirming that your photo has been uploaded successfully.

For more information about how to produce photographs that meet the requirements for the DS-160, please refer to the following guide.
