The Consulate is closed on all American and Mexican holidays.

A child born abroad to U.S. citizen parent(s) usually acquires U.S. citizenship at birth.

In addition to the application form, the parent(s) will need to provide an original certified birth certificate for the child; proof of the parent(s)' U.S. citizenship, such as a previous U.S. passport, a Naturalization Certificate, or a certified long-form U.S. birth certificate or Consular Report of Birth Abroad along with a photo identification; the parents' marriage certificate, if applicable; medical records from the hospital or clinic from before and during the birth of the child; proof of parents’ entry into Mexico; and proof of the U.S. citizen parent(s)' physical presence in the United States prior to the birth of the child, such as school transcripts, tax returns, W-2 forms, employment records, or other documentation.

Alternate method for applicants near Piedras Negras and Ciudad Acuña, Coahuila

Rather than beginning the application process at the Consulate, you may obtain the application and have your documents reviewed at the Consular Agencies in Piedras Negras and Ciudad Acuña.

Important Informaiton

The U.S. Citizen parents and the child must be present at the time of application. Consular personnel require both parents to appear.

Documents submitted must be originals or certified copies.

One photocopy is needed of documents you bring, as indicated in the application packet. If you don't attach photocopies, a $1.00 USD fee will be charged for each copy made.
