Career Development Workshops for Staff Scientists/Staff Clinicians
OITE is pleased to announce a four-part career development series for NIH Staff Scientists/Staff Clinicians. The workshop series entitled CAREER SATISFACTION & SUCCESS is appropriate for SS/SC at all stages, whether you are considering a career move now or exploring options for the future. You must register for each workshop separately. Video link to other NIH locations will be provided. Please register early to help us plan. Feel free to attend all or some of the workshops.
#1: PLANNING FOR CAREER SATISFACTION & SUCCESS - DEFINING THE PROCESS:
This workshop will help you understand how your personal interests, skills, and values contribute to your future career success. Topics to be covered include the importance of career decision making, self-assessment, transferrable skills, networking, defining success, personal needs, work/life balance, and defining short-term and long-term goals. The workshop will provide insight into planning a job search, finding jobs, and using internet and community resources.
#2: CVs AND RESUMES: ESSENTIAL JOB SEARCH DOCUMENTS
This workshop will highlight the critical elements and structure of both CVs and resumes. These important job documents serve as the foundation for all job searches, and knowing how to create them based on the employment sector and published position description is essential. Participants will have the opportunity to sign up for a CV/resume consultation in the OITE Career Services Center.
#3: EXPANDING YOUR CAREER NETWORKS
We will discuss both online and in-person networking, an important component of successful career building at all career stages. Not only is it important to develop a network, but it also takes time to manage your network. We will dive deeper into managing networks, covering topics that include identifying career advocates, interacting with colleagues, and building meaningful long-term communication with individuals who may enhance your career.
#4: INTERVIEWING SKILLS
In this highly interactive workshop we will share advice and strategies for interviewing successfully for positions in all job sectors. Topics will include interviewing skills, meeting interviewers' expectations, communicating responses with confidence, and preparing effectively for the interview.
