Aesthetic Pavement Treatments
Aesthetic Pavement is a term used to describe paving material
that would satisfy the criteria of being aesthetically pleasing and have acceptable
engineering properties for anticipated traffic loading. Numerous tests are conducted
on selected aggregates to achieve the “look” required for a particular landscape
design. The look may have historical significance or it may be purely aesthetic.
The Eastern Federal Lands Highway Division continues to explore varied uses of synthetic
binders, gravel aggregates, paving methods and other approaches, to further the
options available to our client partners for Context Sensitive Pavements. We are
excited to share our recent accomplishments in this area on some projects of tremendous
historical value.
