Command Sergeant Major Donald Thelen began his military career after graduating from Fowler High School, Fowler, MI.

He completed Basic Combat Training at Fort Campbell, KY and AIT at Ft Sill, OK.

He became the 3d Medical Recruiting Battalion Command Sergeant Major in January 2009. Command Sergeant Major Thelen served as the First Command Sergeant Major of the U.S. Army 304th SBDE, March AFB, CA, Commandant, NCO Academy, Fort McCoy, WI, and Command Retention NCO, HQs 77th RSC, Fort Totten, NY.

CSM Thelen assumed responsibilities as Command Sergeant Major of Fort Devens on 21 March 2011.

Command Sergeant Major Thelen is a resident graduate of the U.S. Army Sergeants Major Academy at Fort Bliss, Texas. In addition to his military education, he has earned an Associate and Bachelor’s Degree in Business from Columbia College in St. Louis, and is currently pursuing a Masters Degree in Public Administration from Central Michigan University, Ft. Meade, MD.
